The lake in the background is Palmer Lake at Belle Isle Park, outside of Detroit, MI.

There are several photographs from this outing. We are not sure if Rifka and Louis were married at this time, or just engaged.

We originally thought this was taken at the lake at Palmer Park, but apparently this is too much water to be that little tiny lake. It may have been taken the same day as the picture of Rifka at the fountain (previous photo).

This dress was one of the few things Rifka brought with her to the United States. It was beautifully embroidered. It was later ruined by a basement flood.

This may or may not be Lifsha Chizi -- it looks like her, but a bit older and we don't recognize the background. It may be a relative of Lifsha's, and this may have been taken in Vladimirets, not Detroit, but we're not sure of anything on this photograph.

Not sure which cousin this is, but the dress is similar to the traditional embroidered dresses worn by Rifka and Fanny in previous photographs.

This might be Bernard Chase with other unknown cousins in the background, but we're not sure. This photograph was with others from this time period. Naturally, none of them had names listed.

Picture taken ca. 1938 by Motel Rosenberg. Shown, from left to right: Moshe Burko, crouching: Golda Burko (Rosenberg), Iztik (Itzhak) Rosenberg, Teibel Burko (on the bike), Rachel Burko (now Levin), and Yosel (Yosef) Rosenberg (behind Rachel).

Iztik, Yosel, and Teibel were killed in the Vladimirets massacre of 1942. In the background, the Pravoslav church on Main St. is visible. This picture was taken in the back yard of the Burko family house, on 20 Main St. (Now the town archives.)

Motel was Golda's uncle. He was living in the US, and came to visit his hometown in 1938. Yosel and Itzik were Golda's half brothers. There should be more photos from this visit -- we're trying to find them.

This was taken in Detroit, Michigan. The girl is probably Doris Barill. She told me a story about some man who would bring around a pony and for a fee you could have a picture taken with it.

This photo set is duplicated in two albums. I just liked the symmetry between Rifka holding Irving as a baby (1930) and Irving holding Gayle as a baby (1958).
